About Judy Elder

coach spouse support programs, Judy Elder

Judy Elder was the wife of Hall of Fame Coach John K. Elder. While school and community were important to the family, faith was the cornerstone of all family activities.

Judy was the ultimate coach's wife and an integral part of John’s success through the years. Judy was not only on the sidelines each Friday night cheering on the Alexis Cardinals; she supported every effort behind the scenes as well. Judy baked her famous cookies for the boys, organized team activities, and most importantly, provided feedback to John K. on what she saw on Friday night. She did all of this with little fanfare or recognition. Judy had pride in all of the Alexis Cardinal success. She was even known to perform duties as the center while her youngest son prepared to quarterback the Cardinals. Judy organized the calendars of seven busy children year around, but especially during the fall. While it was obvious that the 3 boys would be on the gridiron, Judy encouraged the girls to do all they could by being in the band, being a cheerleader, or being the school mascot.

Judy was taken from our lives in January 2024. John K. and the Elder family think of her daily and hope this award will not only help keep her memory alive, but will also encourage coaches to recognize the important role their spouse plays in their lives. Judy willingly sacrificed certain things so that John could help teach young men about football and life. John K. and Judy were married for 67 years at the time of her passing. They devoted their lives to the community of Alexis and its schools. Over the years, they enjoyed many visits from former players at their family home which only confirmed the impact they had on the youth they coached.
